How to buy a .si domain

First, check whether the name is taken

.si names are run by the registry Register.si and registered through accredited registrars. Anyone, anywhere can hold one: there is no residency requirement.

Search the name at Register.si or at any registrar. If it's free, you can register it straight away. If it's taken, the only way to get it is from its current holder.

Buying a .si name that someone already holds

Good short or dictionary .si names are almost all registered, so most buyers deal with an existing holder. The risk in a private deal is paying someone who doesn't really own the name, or paying before the transfer happens.

Auction X removes both risks. Sellers prove they control the domain before they can list it, and the money moves only after the registry shows the domain has changed hands.

1. 01Find the name on Explore and choose: bid at auction, or buy now at the fixed price.
2. 02Add a card. When you bid, your bank holds your maximum bid; nothing is charged.
3. 03If you win, the seller starts the holder change at their registrar within 2 days.
4. 04You accept it and publish a private token in the domain's DNS within 2 days, so we can see you're in control.
5. 05Auction X checks the registry. Once the new holder shows, your card is charged and the domain is yours.
6. 06You get 24 hours to check everything before the seller is paid.

What to check before you buy

• •Expiry date: make sure the registration doesn't lapse soon. Auction X only lists names valid for at least 45 more days.
• •Status: the name shouldn't be locked or in a dispute. Auction X checks this with Register.si at listing, daily, and in the last hour of every auction.
• •Trademarks: avoid names that copy a brand you don't own. You can lose them in a dispute.
• •Letters: .si also supports accented letters such as č, š and ž. Decide whether you want the version with or without them, or both.
• •Renewal: after the purchase you pay the yearly renewal to your registrar, as with any domain.

What it costs

Buyers pay the price of the lot and nothing else: no buyer fees, no escrow fee. Sellers pay a 5% commission plus a transaction fee covering Stripe's card and payout costs, at cost, when the sale completes. The registry doesn't charge for a holder change; your registrar may charge its own small fee.
